“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
John 4:23-24 NIV
https://bible.com/bible/111/jhn.4.23-24.NIV. I really love this verse because the Lord is speaking about true worship. He is after our hearts. I believe true worship is not so much singing songs to God but is having such a deep relationship with the Holy Spirit that we want to walk in the light, and in his presence in everything we do. It does not mean we are perfect and won’t have days that are hard, but it does mean we allow our hearts through the Holy Spirit, to be soft allowing Christ who is perfect to live through us! When reading the psalms that David wrote, one can see that he wrote songs that were so real. He had the heart of God yet suffered much. We must know the heart of God. How do we know his heart? By spending time with him. Waiting sometimes in the quiet to hear his still small voice. Reading his word and asking the Holy Spirit to take over and speak to us about his word! “Ascribe to the Lord , you heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.”
Psalm 29:1-2. In the bible David was still ascribing to the Lord the glory due his name. In the story of David, he was rejected by King Saul and even hunted down by King Saul who he once looked up to as someone he trusted. 1 Samuel 19 New International Version (NIV)
Saul Tries to Kill David
19″ Saul told his son Jonathan and all the attendants to kill David. But Jonathan had taken a great liking to David 2 and warned him, “My father Saul is looking for a chance to kill you. Be on your guard tomorrow morning; go into hiding and stay there. 3 I will go out and stand with my father in the field where you are. I’ll speak to him about you and will tell you what I find out.”
This role model now had turned his heart against David because of fear and jealousy yet David still praised the Lord! Psalm 23 King James Version (KJV)
“ The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”
Lord help us to worship you in Spirit and in truth. I pray for the heart of David to really seek you and know you. He praised you even when he was walking through the valley of the shadow of death!” He continued to keep his focus on the Lord! Although all hell seemed to be breaking out against him. David said I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever! He was a worshiper who worshipped in Spirit and in truth!
